Recipe: Cauliflower Fried “Rice”

FriedRice

This one is for the bacon lovers! Fried cauliflower “rice” is an easy recipe, quick to make, and great for a full, satisfying weeknight meal. In my quest for healthy eating, substituting cauliflower for white rice is an excellent way to get more vegetables into your system. And I actually prefer the cauliflower over rice for both texture and flavor. This recipe is also highly customizable. Experiment with different veggies, meat, be creative! This recipe is paleo-friendly. I use coconut aminos as a substitute for soy sauce. Read More →

Farewell to an album designer

The main reason I became a graphic designer was my love for rock and roll, and for the mysterious and wondrous album art that usually accompanied the music. Sadly, album art is a fading medium, but it’s still why I prefer buying CDs to downloading digital music. Storm Thorgerson was the graphic designer behind many of the craziest, surreal albums of the past 40 years. We can thank him for the iconic album art of Led Zeppelin, the Cranberries, Pink Floyd, Muse, The Mars Volta, the Scorpions, and many other artists. Storm passed away last week at age 69. Here is my tribute to Storm with a collection of some of my favorite album covers he created during his career. Thanks for the inspiration, Storm!

Alice Cooper is set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. A fitting honor for the original shock rocker.

I listened to a great interview with Alice on NPR’s Fresh Air today. During the show he explained how he modeled his stage performance after classic vaudeville. He simply updated the vaudeville model to rebel against the folksy hippy trip that was the late sixties music scene. In his own words, Alice Cooper was “driving a stake through the heart of the Love Generation.” He is the original shock rocker, and all of the acts that followed have reformulated his style to varying degrees of success: KISS created superheros and flashpots, GWAR opted for humor and outrageous costumes, Marilyn Manson played up the androgyny and spectacle, and Slipknot took the horror and anger to new heights. All are great shows in their own right, but none have unique, dramatic blend of horror, humor and extravagance that is and Alice Cooper performance. Read More →

New work: Norwegian Wood

I recently developed and launched a website for Norwegian Wood Golf Course and Highlander Bar & Grill. This is a beautiful 9-hole course situated on the banks of Canyon Ferry Lake south of Helena, Montana. With great food and gorgeous landscaping, the owner hopes to utilize this new website as a way to expand his clientele and attract local communities to Norwegian Wood as a great choice for a day on the links, a great evening out with fine dining, or both! You can visit the site here
